Setup
The major change here is that routes need only be set up once and multiple hump crests are supported from the single file.
- Open Yard
- Press 0 (keyboard top line) to enter Hump Setup
- The (current) Hump Crest track is shaded deep red to pink.
- Use Keypad 4 or plus/equals key to move this track along a preset route into the bowl.
- If you are happy with the route defined press Keypad 0 or question mark/slash key to accept the route (the shaded track is reset to the hump crest).
- If you need to modify a switch setting on this route then press R to Reject or Reset the route and repeat from #4 above having now set the switches correctly.
- When you have either finished defining all the routes from this crest (as described in 4 above) or you wish to save your work and return later then press 0 (keyboard top line) again.
Data will be saved in 2 files located in <ROOT>\server1\yards\ - called nnnn.swt (defining the routes from crest into the bowl) and nnnn.set (defining the assignments to each route).
You may return later and continue from where you left off. However, you need to remember where you had got to in your route definitions as there is no graphical indication of last route defined.
There is a counter output on the map screen giving Hump Number and Track Number.
IMPORTANT - for multiple hump setups you must define all the routes from one hump crest before moving onto the next one.
To move to the next hump crest and define the routes for that press N while Hump setup is active. The shaded line will now be visible on the next hump crest and you should proceed as before to define the routes. Up to 6 different hump crests are supported together with a total of 250 routes for all hump crests. Also a maximum of 50 switches on any single route.
There are 2 types of multiple hump crests - I shall use MacMillan as an example as it actually has both types. The 1st type is Side-by-side i.e. from each crest the routes are almost identical into the bowl with the only difference being the 1st and 2nd switches. The 2nd switch (being a backward facing switch ) must be set fixed (manually) for the duration of the hump. Side-by-Side humps should not be used at the same time. The 2nd type is separate Hump crests i.e. the routes from the 1st do no cross the routes for the 2nd. These Hump crests may be used simultaneously.
To define the routes for side-by-side humps either preceed as above or (not really recommended) define the 1st set and copy and paste the data in the file changing the data for the 1st switch. You will also need to change the file header and also add data to nnnn.set.

1st Blocked=1/Not Blocked=0: Number of switches in this route:switch data..... (3 per switch:common:open:closed) padded with 0's to the maximum for this file.
File Header for nnnn.set is the same as for nnnn.swt but drop the last entry on line #1 If you create nnnn.swt by hand then you must have the same data in the header for nnnn.set and also have the correct number of assignment lines each "0:"
If you create all the routes from within FYM then all this is taken care of for you.
Track Assignments
Having set up the routes files then
- Open Map
- Press 9 to open new track assignments dialog.
- Select the Hump you wish to set up assignments for. This will display all the tracks associated with that hump crest.
- Select required track.
- Current assignments will be displayed.
- To add assignments then select from the drop down boxes on the right.
- To add a Railroad assignment then you first select the RR and then select either None or a State.
- You can delete everything or all for the selected track or individually selected items.
Pressing OK saves all your changes and they are now available for use on the humps. Pressing Cancel returns your assignments to their previous state.
You can set a maximum of 100 different assignments per track (Railroad + State counts as 2).
Operation
- Hump as before: run the cut to be sorted over the crest at 5 mph. There must be an engine on the cut.
- FYM knows which crest is the one at which the last car uncoupled as so will automatically search only that crest's routes for a matching assignment.
- FYM will now remember the hump route selected for an individual car whever the WAG file is saved. So trains may be run into and out of the map while the auto-hump is running and cars between the crest and the last switch on a route will remember their routing.
Classification Track Blocking
- If you assign identical elements (say same States etc) to tracks A & B then as track A fills you can now block it so that all cars will now be routed to Track B.
- To set a track as blocked proceed as in 1-5 of ## Track Assignments
- Select the track to be blocked and press "Block/UnBlock" button.
- The assignments for this track are now listed in red.
- Unblocked tracks will have their assignments listed in green.
"Delete this Track" will set track as Unblocked and delete all assignments to it. "Delete Everything" will set all tracks as Unblocked and delete all assignments. (Confirmation required).
Track blocking is useful for high volume work where you can fill one track - block it and switch all cars to another - pull the cars from the 1st track out of the bowl without interruption while the 2nd is being filled.
If you block a track without having a substitute available then all cars which should have gone to that track will go to the "Others" track. If the blocked track is the "Others" track then any cars affected will simply follow the cars in front.
Specifying identical assignments on 2 or more tracks and then deleting all from one track will produce the same result as described above. However, to return to humping to the 1st track the assignments must be set up again.
